Course Descriptions:
Introduction to Operatios Management
Explore the basic concepts in managing the flow of materials in a supply chain, including
flow, from internal and external suppliers, to and from your organization; and elements of
the supply chain, lean manufacturing, total quality management (TQM), manufacturing
resource planning (MRP), demand planning, and capacity management overview.
Inventory and Logistics Management
Gain insight into distribution requirements and coordination in supply chain
management. Topics discussed will include logistics, basics of inbound and outbound
traffic management, freight terms and classifications, warehousing requirements, the
importance of information systems, and effective methods for managing inventory assets.
Purchasing in Today's Environment
Examine the functions and influences of the procurement specialist in today’s supply
chain environment. Discuss procurement organization and objectives, ethics,
interdepartmental interactions, quality aspects, source selection, and legal consideration.
Other topics include aspects of vendor-managed inventory.
Forecasting and Master Planning the Supply Chain
Explore processes used to develop sales and identify and assess internal and external
demand and forecasting requirements. Focus on the importance of producing achievable
master schedules that are consistent with business policies, objectives, and resource
constraints. Topics include demand management, sales and operation planning, master
scheduling, and measuring the business plan.
Managing MRP - Material Requirements Planning
Students focus on the various techniques for material and capacity scheduling. The
course includes detailed descriptions of material requirement planning (MRP), capacity
requirement planning (CRP), inventory management practices, and supplier involvement.
Topics include techniques and practices of inventory management, detailed material
planning process, planning operation support, and planning external supplies.
Enterprise Strategic Planning and Operations Management
Students explore the relationship between existing and emerging processes and
technologies, and manufacturing strategy, and supply chain-related functions. The course
addresses three main topics: aligning resources with the strategic plan, configuring and integrating operating processes to support the strategic plan, and implementing change.
Other topics include project management fundamentals.
Lean Manufacturing Principles and Techniques
Learn how to optimize operations using traditional PAC (Production Activity Control)
and Lean methods, Study techniques for scheduling and controlling production processes, executing plans and implementing controls. Explore principles and techniques for both push and pull
systems, while discussing various Lean tools such as Six Sigma, visual controls, the five
(5) S’s and how to identify and eliminate waste to say competitive in the 21st century.
